A kitchen remodel is obviously a challenging project to live thru. Dealing with trades people, having dust and debris everywhere, and trying to live your life through it all can me a real adjustment. There are things you can do however that will minimize some of the inconveniences.
Before the demolition begins on your old kitchen, make sure all of your new components have been ordered and will be available when needed. Nothing is more frustrating during a kitchen remodel then realizing that your new cabinets will not be ready on time, and your old kitchen has already been ripped out! Any and all decisions should be already made prior to actually starting the construction process.
Next, go over with your contractor a few house keeping rules. Let them know which doors they can use to access your home, and which ones they cannot. Have them establish a set time that work will begin and end each day during the kitchen remodel process. Also have them drape off the work area from other parts of the house, so that dust will not travel thru the entire home. You may also want to set up a door mat so that everyone can wipe off their feet prior to entering your home.
Another concern during a kitchen remodel is what to do about eating. Have your refrigerator relocated to a room in the house away from the construction. Move the microwave and a small cabinet for food storage as well. This area will serve as a make shift kitchen until the project ends. And best of all, enjoy eating out during the project!
