Kitchen Design 101

 I’ve seen many people spend a great deal of money on a kitchen, and end up with an ugly kitchen!  Just because you buy the best cabinets, fancy countertops, high-end appliances and beautiful flooring, does not mean it is going to all look good together.  A nice kitchen design starts with a solid design plan that is functional and well laid out, but it does not stop there.  Selecting all the various elements and having them blend well with one another is not an easy task.  I often see people struggling with decisions during the kitchen design process.  Instead of carefully selecting a seasoned kitchen designer, they put their trust in a “decorator” or friend, that often times takes them down a bad path.  Kitchen professionals do this every day, and that is why it is so important to hire a pro and get it done right.  A professional can even work with a limited budget and still achieve your vision of a beautiful kitchen.

 Selecting the elements of your kitchen must start somewhere.  Let’s say you’ve seen a cream colored cabinet that you just absolutely love.  This will be your starting point, and all future considerations will be based around your cabinets.  Your countertop would need to be on the medium to dark color tone, in order to complement your cabinet color – not compete with it.  Your flooring then needs to not only complement the cabinets, but also go with your countertops.  After all this, you still need to select an appropriate wall color that ties it all together.  As you can see, kitchen design is not an easy task if you do not have the experience.  The money you spend getting professional advice will be well worth it, and you will have a beautiful kitchen that you will enjoy for years to come.
